In road transport operations, the development of the use of alternative fuels other than diesel is currently very much on the rise.
The TRANSMISSION committee sees a trend here where the right fuel or energy medium is sought depending on the nature of the work. Also important is the (non-)existent infrastructure such as charging points, electricity grid and refuelling facilities for alternative fuels. Given that all TRTA members collectively have more than 10,000 trucks in operation, it is important that the members are, and are kept, up to date with new developments that will enable the replacement of diesel trucks by alternatively-powered trucks.

Several members have already come up with initiatives and made investments in support of non-diesel-powered trucks. Due to these and other reasons, the TRANSMISSION committee, in addition to collaboration with OEMs, will focus on collaboration with other parties that are (or could be) important in the development and promotion of the use of alternative fuels. These include energy and oil companies, the political sector, government bodies and research and educational institutions.
